Virender Sehwag criticized Sam Curran’s performances in the current IPL season, stating that he wouldn’t include the all-rounder in his team. Curran has been struggling to make an impact for Punjab, both with the bat and the ball.
Former cricketer Virender Sehwag criticized PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran, expressing that he wouldn’t have him in the team as either a batsman or a bowling all-rounder, after Punjab suffered their 6th loss of the season.
In the match, Curran scored 20 runs off 19 balls and took one wicket from his two overs but also conceded 18 runs. Ultimately, GT emerged victorious, adding to PBKS’ struggles in Mullanpur.
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag criticized Sam Curran’s performances with both bat and ball, expressing his dissatisfaction with the all-rounder’s contributions to the team. Sehwag emphasized the importance of excelling in either batting or bowling to truly make an impact for the team.
According to Sehwag, being a player who dabbles in both batting and bowling without excelling in either doesn’t benefit the team. He believes that a player should either shine with their batting skills or with their bowling abilities to help the team secure victories.
In the last two games, Curran has been given the opportunity to bat at the start for PBKS, but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to make a significant impact in those matches.
This season, Curran had a good start by scoring 63 runs in the first match for PBKS against DC. However, since then, he has not been able to make much of an impact in both batting and bowling. In 8 matches, he has only scored 153 runs at an average of 19.
Last season, he scored 276 runs with an average of 27.60. In terms of bowling, he has taken 11 wickets, but his economy rate is a bit high at 8.79. Interestingly, he only bowled in two out of the eight matches against GT.
Curran and Punjab are looking to break their losing streak and return to winning ways in their next match against KKR at the Eden Gardens on April 26. After the loss to Gujarat, PBKS currently occupies the 9th position on the table
