In a recent match against PSG, a Brazilian player scored for the team and as a result, he now shares the same achievement as football legends like Messi, Deco, and the current manager Xavi Hernández.
The new Champions League format was introduced 32 years ago. On 16 September 1992, Guillermo Amor scored Barcelona’s first goal in this competition against Viking Stavanger, with the iconic anthem playing in the background. Since that momentous occasion, there have been countless goals scored by Barcelona in the Champions League. Just recently, during the match against PSG on Tuesday, Raphinha celebrated Barcelona reaching an incredible milestone of 600 goals in Europe’s premier club competition. A true testament to the club’s rich history and success in the tournament over the years.
Here’s a list of other incredible goals that were scored in the previous centuries:
Gabri had a stellar performance during a match against Sparta Prague on 21st March 2000. The talented Catalan midfielder scored two goals, known as a brace, in the second group stage of that year’s competition. He first scored the equalizer after Sparta Prague had taken an unexpected lead and then secured the win with another goal shortly after.
Five years later, on September 27, 2005, Frank Rijkaard’s team had a great victory against Udinese, winning 4-1. Ronaldinho was the star of the match with a hat-trick, but it was Deco’s goal that marked the team’s 200th goal achievement.
Ibrahimovic made a memorable impact during his short time at Barcelona. In a quarter-final match against Arsenal at the Emirates on March 31, 2010, he scored a fantastic goal by elegantly lobbing the ball over the home team’s goalkeeper, Almunia. This goal not only opened the scoring but also marked his 301st goal for Barcelona in the competition.
Xavi, who is now the manager of Barcelona, was on the field when the team scored its 600th goal against PSG. He had actually scored the 400th goal 11 years ago on 26 November 2013, during a match against Ajax in the group stage. However, despite Xavi’s goal from a penalty kick, Barcelona lost the game to Ajax 2-1.
Lionel Messi scored his 500th goal after a gap of five years, against Chelsea in the round of 16 on 21st February 2018. He received an assist from Iniesta and scored to draw the game 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.
