“Rajnath Singh warns of backdoor religion-based quota in Congress manifesto if elected!”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh sounded a strong warning today against the Congress party’s manifesto for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He highlighted concerns about the party’s alleged proposal for religion-based reservation if they come to power.
Speaking passionately at a public gathering in Visakhapatnam, Rajnath Singh criticized the Congress for its divisive tactics, accusing them of attempting to create rifts within key institutions, including the armed forces, on religious grounds.
Singh’s comments were reminiscent of the Sachar Committee Report from 2006, which was issued during the Congress regime. This report recommended conducting a headcount of Muslims in the armed forces.
He described this action as a risky effort to introduce religious considerations into the armed forces, a move he criticized as unprecedented in India’s history since gaining independence.
He mentioned that under the Congress government, the Sachar Committee Report in 2006 proposed counting the number of Muslims serving in the armed forces. This was the first instance in independent India where an attempt was made to divide the armed forces based on religion.
Singh, who was part of the opposition at that time, strongly opposed this measure. He emphasized that such attempts to bring religion into the military are concerning and highlight what he sees as the true intentions of the Congress party.
In their latest manifesto, the traditional party once again suggested the possibility of reserving government jobs for religious minorities, maybe even within the Armed Forces. This proposal could harm the unity of our nation. Imagine the consequences this could have on our country,” Singh pointed out.
I am worried that the content within the Congress manifesto, under the guise of ‘minority welfare,’ seems to be inspired by the Sachar Committee report,he remarked.
