In the IPL 2024 match between RR and MI, Yuzvendra Chahal created history by becoming the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in a T20 tournament.
Yuzvendra Chahal created history by becoming the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved this milestone during the match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Chahal needed just one more wicket to achieve the feat and achieved it by dismissing Mohammad Nabi.
In his first over of the game, Chahal took a wicket by outsmarting Nabi with his clever bowling technique and delivery angle. Nabi ended up giving an easy catch to Chahal who made no mistake in catching the ball.
This wicket meant that MI’s score was reduced to 52 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 7.3 overs, as they had chosen to bat first.
Since joining the Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 T20 league, Chahal has proven to be a valuable player for the team. In that year, he won the Purple Cap for taking the most wickets when RR finished as the runners-up, losing to Gujarat in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chahal played 17 games and took an impressive 27 wickets, showcasing his skill and ability on the field.
Ranking
Yuzvendra Chahal currently ranks third in the list of leading wicket-takers for Rajasthan Royals in T20 matches, following the legendary Shane Warne and fast bowler Siddharth Trivedi. In the ongoing IPL season, Chahal is among the top wicket-takers, alongside players like Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.
Last year, Chahal surpassed former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in the IPL. However, he faced a tough challenge when Rajasthan Royals played against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Chahal conceded 54 runs in his 4 overs, while managing to take the wicket of Shreyas Iyer.
Chahal is now eager to secure a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year in the West Indies and the United States of America.
