Celebrity Storm: Sahil Khan Arrested in Mahadev Betting App Case, Ranbir Kapoor and Badshah Among Bollywood Stars Questioned

Actor Sahil Khan has been taken into police custody until May 1 in connection with the Mahadev betting app case in Mumbai. The special investigation team (SIT) from Mumbai apprehended Khan in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, after the Bombay High Court rejected his bail plea.

Some famous Bollywood actors, including the star known for his roles in movies like Aladdin, Excuse Me, and Style, are among 32 people accused of promoting a betting application. Several other Bollywood celebrities have also been questioned in connection with the Mahadev betting app case.

Several Bollywood actors, including Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, were called in for questioning by the Enforcement Directorate last year in connection to the Mahadev Betting App Scam. They were asked about the payments they received for promoting the app. The officials wanted to understand where the money came from.

Several celebrities, including Kapil Sharma, Hina Khan, and Huma Qureshi, were reportedly paid through illegal hawala transactions for promoting the Mahadev betting app. They were allegedly lured from a wedding in Dubai earlier this year for this purpose.

Furthermore, actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell in relation to the Fairplay app, also known as a betting app. She is being questioned for her alleged involvement in promoting the viewing of IPL 2024 matches on the app.

Mumbai Police has already taken statements from Badshah, Sanjay Dutt, and Jacqueline Fernandez in connection with this case. The investigation continues into these high-profile individuals and their possible links to illegal betting practices.

The Mahadev betting app case involves an investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding illegal transactions between the creators of the Mahadev betting app and various financial and real estate companies in the state. According to the police report, the scam is estimated to be around ₹15,000 crore.

An investigation is currently ongoing against Shail Khan and 31 other individuals. The police are looking into their bank accounts, mobile phones, laptops, and other technical equipment.

According to the official report (FIR), it is alleged that the founders of the Mahadev book app—Uppal, Saurabh Chandrakar, Shubham Soni, and Anil Agrawal—set up an online platform for live online betting and engaged in gambling activities using social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

These individuals established multiple platforms and employed panel operators and branch operators to conduct illegal online betting operations. As per the FIR, they distributed a portion of their profits to these operators while retaining the majority (70-80%) for themselves.

During the lockdown in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was reported that the people behind an online betting app were making around ₹450 crore every month. An FIR revealed that those managing the app were using various bank accounts to send illegal money to the app promoters in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
